The recent revelation that Trustee Chair Challis Lowe is perhaps "illegally" (as WCTV described it last night) serving on the FAMU BOT presents a small problem for Lowe and the Governor. My thinking on how this small image/political problem might be resolved is this; the Governor will simply appoint Mrs. Lowe (who previously was a BOG appointee) to the seat recently vacated by Corey Alston (an appointee of Governor Bush). If that happens, problem solved, crisis averted until the next legislative session. We are not really sure, if the BOG can reappoint Mrs. Lowe, now, since it missed is chanced to do so on June 19th.

But hey, this is Florida and Bush is still Governor anything can happen. (We are talking about a guy who doesn't count ALL the votes if he doesn't want to.)

Football Weightroom & FAMU High Construction Underway. FAMU broke ground on a long awaited expansion to the football weight training facility yesterday. The expansion which was first proposed by the FAMU Boosters led at the time by FL. State Sen. AL Lawson, and financially backed by Culpepper Construction Co., was sidelined at the ninth hour last year by Interim President Bryant who claimed she had no prior knowledge of the plans.

Fortunately, for the student athletes, new Athletic Director Nelson Townsend was able to resurrect the idea to exapand the cramped quarters this year. The Capital Outlook has "first look" photos of this construction project here: Weight Room/ DRS construction

The Outlook photos also includes site preparation work being done at the new FAMU High School site. While your over on their site check out the video news story at the bottom of the page. It's pretty neat.

  2. RN: Need some procedural clarification...

Are you sure the Lowe problem is solved if Gov Bush appoints her to the BOT? What happens to her current (or previous) status as BOT chair? Will she still be able serve as chair since she will be a new appointee? Or should there be a new election to elect (new) BOT chair? What is the BOT proceedure regarding this issue? Any clarification RN can offer would be helpful.

  3. If and when her membershipe on the Board is cleared up, it is up to the Board itself self to clear decide wether or not she continues to serve as chair.

  4. Any way it's resolved, it is not good for FAMU with Lowe on the BOT.

  5. If the governor can seat her for tardy paperwork, then he should do the same for Corey Alston.

Then we are back to the issue of her illegally serving on the board.

I say get rid of her ass NOW! This is another of Jebbie's devious plans.

  6. I'm glad we are expanding the fieldhouse. How many sq ft we picking up? Does anyone know?

And how many would we have picked up with Big Al's renovation? Can we still tap into the funds Big Al was going to give?
