The FAMU School of Journalism recieved a William Randolph Hearst medallion and finished in 10th place in the writing portion of Hearst Journalism Awards. One FAMU Journalism student, Jessica N. Larche, placed third in the spot news writing competition and received a $1,000 individual scholarship. The Hearst awards is considered the "Puiltzer Prize of College Journalism".
FAMU ranked well among top finishers University of Florida, Missouri, Northwestern, and Maryland.
The Hearst Journalism Awards Program is open only to the nation's 107 accredited schools of journalism and mass communication
