Anika Noni Rose, the Tony Award winning actress and FAMU theatre grad, will be making Disney history. She just landed the lead role as Maddy, Disney's first ever, black princess, in the upcoming animated film the "Frog Princess".Rose reportedly beat out Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, and Tyra Banks to land the role.
Mostly recently, Rose played a major role in the hit film Dreamgirls.

Right now, I'm grinning like a cheshire cat, knowing that a talented sister of color will be cast as a "princess," especially in a culture that is not known for recognizing and acknowledging the beauty of women of color. And for Ms Rose to top out over Jennifer Hudson, another sister of reputation and talent, speaks volumes. Perhaps other film corporations will begin to take note of us and cast us in such roles. Anika Noni Rose makes us all so proud, as has so many other talented sisters on the big screen who have engaged in roles of dignity and merit.
