Rattler Nation has learned that changes in the FAMU athletic program could begin at the top with athletic director Nelson Townsend.

Townsend was seen entering Lee Hall this afternoon around 3:10 pm. Townsend was followed about 20 minutes later by head coach Rubin Carter, sources say. The nature of Mr. Townsend and Coach Carter's business in Lee Hall was not immediately known.

However, campus radio station WANM-FM this evening reported that Townsend is out as athletic director.

At this point, the nature of Coach Carter's employment status is not yet known.

The athletic department has called full staff meeting tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.

  2. You will never be united, if building a program is derailed before the train starts. This is a sad day. Watch who you et now.

  3. Is that a picture of Townsend after he was fired?

  4. I guess Ruben Carter will say this is Billy Joe's fault as well. Carter, get your sh*&^t and leave. Don't let the back door hit you, where your mommy split you.

  5. I doubt Townsend would have been wearing the FAMU hat after he was fired. If he actually wore that to his Lee Hall meeting, then it was a pretty desperate gimmick.

"You wouldn't fire a guy wearing FAMU paraphernalia would you?"

  6. Rattlernation...you're late. Why did we not get wind of this before the news hit the stands *shaking my head*

  7. WCTV-News flashed this long before the FAMUan had it. Doesn't matter, though, who flashed whom. The bottom line is that both of the men are gone...as in Long Gone. Now, as soon as we rid outselves of the rest of CVB's old crew, I think we might be on the road to recovery in ALL areas. I say BJ oughts to be offered his old job back, 'casue the man had no business being fired in the first place. But if he is offered his old job back and he accepted, well, what that would mean is that he had much more grace and class than the public knew about, especially after the dismal way in which he was treated at the hands of the old battle ax, CVB. And we all knew that anyway.

  8. Even as a child, I never liked leftovers. And now, as an adult, I know I must've been on to something, as in this case, what Castell Bryant left us with when she bit the dust. I say: good, damn riddance to the trifling pair of wobegones!

  9. I would hope that FAMU does a national search for a qualified athletic director.

The rumor has former coach Billy Joe as the front runner as the new athletic director.

Though I love coach Joe as a coach, I believe having a proven athletic director would be in the best interest of FAMU.

We dont need another Ken Riley episode.

Please join me in emailing President Ammons and the FAMU Board of Trustees in requesting a national search for the best qualified person.

  10. Did FAMU ever find those millions in athletic receipts?

Oh the janitors threw them out!

  11. You better be looking at NCCU, William "Bill" Hayes, to be your new AD.

  12. Dr. Ammons wasted no time getting rid of Townsend and Carter in Athletics, but he sure is dragging his feet dealing with the incompetent, unqualified deans and administrators according to SACS in Academia. Dr. Ammons please sweep with a clean broom. All of CVB's left overs NEED to go ASAP! After all, FAMU is an institution of Higher Learning and Academia should be a priority!

  13. QUESTION: What was Carter's connection to Castell Bryant BEFORE she hired him? 'Cause surely there was a connection. She just didn't hire him willy-nilly, out of the blue, based on credentials.

  14. He's a family friend of James Corbin. So what of it?

  15. Maybe Trustee Holmes will promote Townsend to a full-time position as associate pastor, now that his primary gig is up.

  16. Keith Jackson VP of Sponsored Research is the last of CVB's hires. His time is also rapidly coming to and end and if Ammons has any sense he will get rid of him too. Sponsored research funding has fallen from 60 million to 40 million dollars under Jackson. Just the sort of person FAMU needs - NOT!

  17. Now is time for someone to dismiss Townsend cronies Corretta Ellision & her husband from the athletic dept.

  18. Dr. Ammons is doing a wonderful job thus far... Remember everyone it is the Athletic "Football" and "Basketball" Programs that bring in BIG dollars to support the Universities... IF IT IS RAN RIGHT, PROPERLY MANAGED, PEOPLE ARE IN PLACE FOR THE RIGHT PURPOSE.... look at the other institutions PLEASE LET THE MAN WORK -

DR. AMMONS HAS GREAT VISION FOR THIS UNIVERSITY, HE IS BEING LEAD BY A HIGHER POWER THAN YOU AND I "GOD".

"Show me your ways, O Lord,
    teach me your paths;
    guide me in your truth
    and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
    PSALM 25:4-5

    LIKE I SAID BE STILL!!!
    "LET THE MAN WORK"
and lean not to your own understanding.

  19. If the MEAC Champions Delaware State just got clobbered in the first round of the playoffs by Delaware, and FAMU finished second to last in the M-E-A-C, then Rubin Carter should have been fired, along with his entire coaching staff, Nelson Townsend and his entire staff, and we should hire Billy Joe tonight.

At least we will dominate the league again and be representative in the playoffs.

The MEAC has got to be the weakest conference in all of D-1 football and we finished second to last. How can anybody rank a MEAC team highly next season with this kind of showing in the playoffs. It's a joke!

Thanks Dr. Ammons for making a change. Hire Billy Joe tonight and let's return our program to prominence! I don't care if Coach Joe coaches from the roof! We will not be embarrassed like this!
