FAMU Social Work students have been helping FAMU Developmental Research School students prepare for the FCAT --- the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test---which will test their reading, science and mathematical skills on March 11.
DRS students, as with most Florida students, have been preparing for this exam all year. About 85 DRS students are working with the social work students who are providing them with encouragement, motivation, and mentoring.
The results of these efforts won't be fully realized until this summer when test scores come back.
Good because it doesn't make sense for F schools to be right down the street from FAMU.
ReplyDeleteBut it makes sense for "F" schools to be, say, be across town or
ReplyDeleteright up the street from FAMU?? I'm not feeling the logic here.
Well, you have to be a logical person. The reasoning is the bright students of FAMU can help out the F schools near campus. It's good that the Social Work students have taken up this issue.
ReplyDeleteNot only that.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the Social Work students don't use the test results to weigh the enormity of the contribution they are making.
They are building relationships that far exceed the FCAT results and further add to the maturation of those young people.
Others should take note
Why isn't the College of Ed helping the students at FAMU High? Makes too much sense right?
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't the parents helping their own kids? The parents have to get involved and show up for more than spaghetti dinners.

ReplyDeleteAMEN!!!!!
3:08, don't you understand facetiousness of 2:43's comment? I guess one must understand more than logic. Maybe a little sarcasm perhaps? Geezz-z-z-z.
ReplyDeleteseems like it takes more than a village these days.
ReplyDeleteYou know but I thought this is why the high school was built. To be a spring board for those who taught in Education, or Social work. To work first hand with the students across the street. If this is not a plan it need so to be one.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the College of Education and other folks are helping at the DRS, just not getting articles written about it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the new superintendent has a plan that will address involvement
Let's wait and see
You could have just asked IF the COE is doing something similar. AND, How can I help!? How can my child help? There are plently locals who love to see the DRS and other minority/southside schools suffer, solely to justify why they send their children to the private and predominate population schools. Our laziness has caused the low performance in other schools and the flood into the DRS.
