New FAMU Law Dean LeRoy Pernell has wasted little time remaking the FAMU College of Law in his own image, by recently announced the hiring of a half-dozen new professors for the 2008-09 school year. Among them: Crisarla Houston, a Harvard Law grad who mostly recently worked at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. Ms. Houston will be the director of legal writing.

The other Pernell hires are: Kenneth Nunn, professor and associate dean for research and faculty development; Markita Cooper, professor and associate dean for academic affairs; Jeremy Levitt, distinguished professor for international law and associate dean for international programs; Jonathan Fineman, assistant professor; and Deleso Washington, associate professor.

  3. The bar is a personal thing, it really doesnt matter what school you go to. People from the best schools in the state fail the bar. You can blame the professors all you like, but at some point, the students themselves have to take responsibility. The only way a school can increase their bar passage rate is to increase the STANDARDS OF ADMISSION. If famu did that, a lot of people would not have the opportunity to go to law school to even attempt to take the bar. You can lead a horse to water but u cant make him drink.

  4. The bar is NOT a personal thing if you have not been taught the basic principles of the law. FAMU COL faculty did a piss poor job developing legal writing and analytical skills. One torts prof didn't even teach strict liability (I bet Willie Gary wouldn't like that). Others used outdated law outlines and "canned" exams. Most COL profs haven't published anything worth reading. Makes you wonder why most of them haven't pass a bar themselves. Most students were clueless when they got to the bar prep course.Thank God for the changes. FAMU can be a great COL if the faculty is overhauled.
