Comedian and Activisit Dick Gregory
is scheduled to be on campus and speak in Lee Hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday. His speech is sponsored by the Office of Student Union and Activities. Admission is $15, and free to FAMU students with a valid ID.
Mr. Gregory's appearance follows a Feb. 1 visit to FAMU by Cornell West. Dick Gregory was on the frontline of civil rights demonstrations in the 60s and today continues to be a “drum major for justice and equality.
In the 1990s, in response to published allegations that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had supplied cocaine to predominantly African American areas in Los Angeles, thus spurring the crack epidemic, Gregory protested at CIA headquarters and was arrested. In 1992 he began a program called “Campaign for Human Dignity” to fight crime in St. Louis neighborhoods
