Committee Members Pressured In SBI Search

We understand, that the Provost has placed pressure on the SBI Dean search committee to select candidates from the group of candidates recruited by the Hollins Group . The search committee, we are told, were instructed to select among the four Hollins Group candidates, no matter what they thought of their candidacy.

The current candidates and bios:

Joseph Boyd, Ph.D., University of South Carolina. Current dean of Texas Southern University, School of Business. Previous experience, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Benedict College, and the dean of the School of Business & Entrepreneurship at Norfolk State. Other relevant work experience: Arthur Anderson, 1969 - 1972. He is on the boards of INROADS, Houston Technology Center, Virginia Retirement System, the former Signet bank, Southern Business Administration and the National Association of Trustees. He is also on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants - Academic and Career Development Executive Committee. His funded grants include: Reliant Energy - $2,000,000; Chase Bank - $1,000,000; Kase Lawal - $1,000,000 and Freddie Mac for $150,000 among others. He is also an advisor and reviewer for the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and part of the Military Installation Voluntary Education Review Team. Ten published articles.

Arthur King, Ph.D. Currently a professor of economics at Winston-Salem St. University. Previously he was the dean of the School of Business at Winston-Salem St. University for 10 years. He has a military background. Member of the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Awards Board of Examiners. Member of the National Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries International Inc. for 6 years. Nine published articles. No fundraising information provided.

Brian Lofman, Ph.D., University of Bradford, UK and MBA from University of California. Currently the interim dean of the Anisfield School of Business at Ramapo College of New Jersey. The school of business has 7 quasi-departments and 1200+ students. Received $2.5 million from the Anisfield family to rename the business school after them. No other fundraising experience listed. Thirteen published articles.

Lydia McKinley-Floyd,Ph.D. Currently the associate dean of Savannah State's College of Business Administration. Has previously served as the dean of Chicago State's business school. Has helped to fundraise $10k to $40k from companies such as Citibank, IBM, and RJR Nabisco. Helped to raise over $1 million for a 2003 annual gala for Chicago State University. She has also worked at a variety of HBCUs. Eight published articles. She has a long list of funded research as well. Her corporate experience includes mostly 2 year stints at Merrill Lynch, Xerox, Southern Bell and First National Bank of Chicago.

Charles Evans, Ph.D. Currently a marketing professor at SBI. In the last 28 years he has been published 7 times, with three of those coming in the past 16 years. His most recent publications are "Black Migration at the Margin of Freedom" and "The Civil Rights Movement and Social Sensitivity: Toward an Understanding of African American Consumer Behavior" both of these were co-written with Drs. Smith and Shresta. He holds a BS from North Carolina A&T; MBA and Ph.D. from Syracuse.

Syrous Kooros Currently the president/CEO of The National Alliance for Economic and Human Development; Executive Vice President of BioMedica Research Foundation; and professor at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. If you remember, this was the gentleman from Iran who had broad experience with the UN and was Iran's Secretary of Industry in the 1970s. Ph. D. from Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute. WELL PUBLISHED. More articles than I care to count.

Bahman Mirshab Dean of University of Detroit - Mercy, School of Business. Has instituted new programs such as an Executive MBA Program, Global Entrepreneurial MBA Program, Master of Science in Information Assurance, MBA with concentration in Healthcare, certificate in Business turnaround Management, and a MBA with a concentration in Business Turnaround Management. Has seen a 10% increase in enrollment over last year and will exceed revenue forecast by $1 million in the current fiscal year. He received his Ph.D. from Wayne St. University and Masters from University of Detroit. He has a long list of accomplishments from his time as dean of the business school.

D.T. Ogilvie - Master fundraiser raising millions of dollars over the years. Previously the CIO of Rutgers University in New Jersey and was the strategy manager at Southland Corporation (7-11) a while back. On the board of directors for several organizations such as the National Black MBA Association. Education: Ph.D. from University of Texas and MBA from Southern Methodist University (SMU).

Niranjan Pati - Currently the dean of the school of business at Indiana University Kokomo. Nationally ranked business school. Led fundraising campaigns and has lots of administrative experience. Ph.D. and MS from Northwestern University.

  2. This is a push by Austin to make personal hires at level of the dean searches.

    She has instructed the other committees as well to only forwarded 5 candidates identified from the Hollins Group.

    Secondly, these candidates are not to be ranked in order of best fit or choice of committees for the college or schools.

  3. the only one that is working with something isnt black, we are an HBCU surely there is a black person out there with experience and credentials that can take SBI to another level. These people arent good enough...
