Today's Tallahassee Democrat features an op-ed by a member of its citizens advisory board. See: FAMU needs ambitious academic vision While the author is correct, FAMU could benefit from an ambitious academic vision, the author fails to take into account that for years FAMU has been held back by the Board of Control and the Board of Regents from embarking on one. Hell, if all things were far, Florida's newest medical school would be at FAMU instead of at FSU.

So, on a scale of one to ten, this op-ed falls far short of scoring a perfect ten. Besides the obvious errors and factual inaccuracies, like FAMU is only 119, not 150, its clear why this guy is a member of citizen advisory board and not the editorial board. I'm surprised that the Democrats "fact checkers" didn't examine this closer. Anyway, dude laid out a good reason why Trustees should move with a "quickness" to locate and seat FAMU's next leader, before the current administration can inflict anymore damage.

  1. Yes, I agree the fact-checker must not be working or was off this weekend. There were blaring errors in this editiorial.

  2. Yeah, I read that article and I thought this guy was a complete idiot. He is about 8 months behind in his sentiments and seems to eco a subtle pro-Bryant stance.

  3. The article is not really about FAMU. It's about FSU.

The article basically sets up FAMU as a straw man to use to praise the way FSU is run.

  4. The Tallahassee Democrat made a huge mistake it in publishing this wacko's editorial. I was beginning to read the TDO again, and then this wacko is published.

  5. This guy sites a "tier-system" and then questions why things aren't the way they are at FSU. If FSU didn't have our young athletes playing for them, they would never have gotten they big money from those NON-GRADUATES who support everything over there. Now with a "beautified" campus to further lure away our youth. Now more than ever, and increasingly so- the way students find out about college is from television and sports. Look at them boom.USF,UCF, all of the other schools got backing to grow in these long BUSH years. Look at what happened to their athletic programs at the same time. Bigger and DARKER. And we keep sending ours where they don't have to be. Looking for the NFL. ***Newsflash*** The NFL does not come to job fairs to sign athletes. Stop sending your /our young people to SCHOOL primarily to go to "THE LEAGUE". The point is to get OUT of the feilds and OFF the plantation! 11:08, you're correct. Isn't all this city about is fsu? Didn't FSU lose accreditation at some point in the late 90's?!
