  1. We're beginning to read the same story every day. Enrollment at NCCU and FVSU soars under the leadership of Dr. Fred Humphries' proteges, while enrollment at FAMU drops under inept leadership.

James Ammons hired Rudy Slaughter to help him recruit. Larry Rivers just hired Donald Moore to aid FVSU's recruitment efforts. Both men are canvassing their states and going door-to-door in search of the best and brightest. They're awarding full scholarships on the spot to the highest achievers and hefty financial aid packages to all who qualify.

The Humphries recruitment model works. Plain and simple.

  2. FVSU and NCCU's presidents should be hired as consultants for FAMU's recruitment program.

  3. It's amazing that Debbie, June Bug, Danielle, and Cassie still can't get the recruitment program up and running. Almost 2 years later and we are worst off than we were before.

    What a frickin shame?

Hats off to Ammons and Rivers.

  4. True Rattlers are running NCCU and FVSU.

  5. Rattlers created the New School recruitment model just like made the modern standard for HBCU bands. It's just part of our trademark. All real Rattlers understand that. I don't think any fair-minded FAMUan is surprised at the enrollment success that FVSU and NCCU are experiencing.

To use a GOP analogy, Larry Rivers and James Ammons are like the two Bush brothers: George W. and Jeb. Fred Humphries is like the father: George H.W. Bush. Just as the two Bush sons used their father's foundation for political success, the two Humphries sons are using their father's foundation to take HBCUs to the next level.

  8. BTW, for those under the belief that a blue print did not exist are smoking that "SHET". There was a well documented recruitment program for this success. TimePrinceton Review, BusinessWeek, Fortune Magazine, Atlanta Constitution, FloridaTrend, NY Times, Washington Post, Houston Chronicle and others wrote about it. Unfortunately, as with everything else, folks started throwing shet in the garbage.

People like Donald Moore, Rudy Slaughter, Roland Gaines, Francis Logan and others I am sure kept their notebooks, reports, paperwork, etc.

Go tell someone who wants to smoke that SHET with you these feeble lies, cause we ain't buying them here anyway. Castell and crew are just like the n---as Chris Rock hate. There is a war between n----as and black folks; and the n---as on the yard ain't readng shet up there. There just throwing shet out and bombing/destroying everything like that dumbass n---as in the Whitehouse.

BTW, did CastHell ever make that call to Humphries she promised at the NAA '05 Winter Mtg. Got-damn liar she is!

Rivers off to a great start

There is good news to report coming out of the valley. Fort Valley State University has doubled the size of its incoming freshman class. Preliminary figures show 650 students have enrolled for the 2006-2007 school year. Last year the incoming class was just 317.

The credit for this upsurge in FVSU's popularity has to be given to its top salesperson and president Larry Rivers. After his appointment in February, Rivers has been on a non-stop trek of selling what his college has to offer to about anyone who will listen.

His personal story has to be attractive to potential students. Who should know the school better than someone who graduated from FVSC and went on to Villanova for his master's degree and earned doctorates from Carnegie Mellon University and Goldsmiths College at the University of London. Rivers comes to FVSU from the dean's chair of the College of Arts and Sciences at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

He started his tenure at FVSU in grand fashion, donating $100,000 to kick off the Challenge Fund, which has a $3 million goal. The school was recently awarded a $1 million grant to renovate Huntington Hall on campus, and with ongoing construction of six buildings, including five new dormitories that will house 650 students, the future looks bright.

FVSU has longed for a leader with vision, and Rivers has the potential to put the school on the map again in much the same manner that Dr. Frederick Humphries, former president at Florida A&M, did with that school. Humphries did it the old-fashioned way by recruiting good students. In 1992, FAMU recruited more National Achievement finalists than Stanford, Harvard or Yale. Rivers has already drawn a line in the academic sand. The increase in enrollment didn't come because admission standards were lowered. Besides, the Board of Regents sets admission standards and dictates how many students can be admitted on a provisional basis.

In the next few years, with the construction over and steadily rising academic achievement, FVSU can return to prominence, not just as a Historically Black College or University, but a school of choice for all top high school graduates.

  11. I love hearing this good news about FVSU. It's truly inspiring to see current examples of REAL Rattler leadership.
