Not sure if you made it to homecoming '06 or not, but if you missed halftime and the "littlest" Drum Major, four-year-old, Shedrick "Austin" Jefferson ll. The Capital Outlook has a nice video of the halftime show here: Halftime '06

  2. He stole the halftime show.

  3. His parents should be really proud! He kept my attention the whole time-I don't think anyone was paying attention to the band except to see if they were in step with lttle drum major Austin! Too cute.

  4. What stole ...

    He WAS the Halftime Show!

  5. Yes, everyone agrees that the kid is terribly cute, but the band members and some other people I asked about this were not as pleased as everyone else. Those kids work too hard to put on a good show to have this "gimmick" on the sideline.

Other bands use tactics like this for attention and they are not necessary for the 100. Personally, I thought it was just as tacky as when I see another band use some child to pump up their show. Although I doubt the 100 "sanctioned" this performance, it gives the appearance that they do but since damn near anyone can come onto the field then I expect that this could continue.

What's next, will that costumed dance group that performs on the sidelines and in the stands and other dancing individuals make their way onto the field to perform "with" the band next??

  6. Sadly, I must agree. It's real hard to come out against a kid, but the 100 does pride itself on no "gimmicks". That's why there are no dancing girls, or horses coming out on the field (think BCC last year).

So what....do all parents with cute kids get to make a costume and put their kids out on the field? This needs to stop now before it gets out of hand.

    The 100 stands alone!

  7. Those of us who went to the games in the late 80' remember PeeWee. She was an older woman from the community who would march alongside the band in the end zone. The crowd loved her and the band continued to perform and it was a fun and entertaining compliment to the band. The antics were even incorporated into Joe Bullard's comments. Stop hating and it's nothing wrong with a little spice from time to time.

Some people are fixtures around FAMU. What would FAMU be without Soul Train. The Little Drum Major is the newest "character" on the campus that we will all grow to love and incorporate into our experiences on the hill

  8. I've been around FAMU long enough to remember Pee Wee. And, yes, she was an entertaining character, but it was obvious that she wasn't part of the band.

This APPEARS to be a band sanctioned performance and it is NOT. Just because something occurs in the past doesn't mean it should still go on.

And Soul Train doesn't "perform" with the band.

There is no "hate" involved. This is just not part of the band's performance. I am deferring my opinion to those who are in the band and do not want this to go on. This is THEIR time. With all of the hits they have taken this year, they have the right to not accept this one.

  9. Some could argue that with all the "hits" the Band has endured lately - mostly self-inflicted - that anything that may take attention AWAY from them might not be a bad thing at all.

BUT - I DO agree with you regarding these "Renegade Dance/Cheerleader Groups" that have access to the field, and outshining the women who have taken their time to be officially recognized as our FAMU Cheerleaders.

I find it to be a total slap in the face to our Cheerleaders to have these girls on the sidelines, and at the Basketball games ... And in some cases - outdoing them at boot!

  10. I am a former member of the 100. Marched during the time when Pee Wee would hit the field. At no time was what Pee Wee doing planned. She was just a lady full of spirits enjoying herself and Doc didn't want to be the bad guy by having her removed.

  11. Oh my goodness. Quit crying. Everyone knows that little man wasn't a prop for the "100". I can honestly say I sat in the student section and did see the little guy strutting his stuff, but it didn't take my attention away from watching the band perform. It more so entertained the fans on the west side that typically only see the backside of the "100"'s performance. The "100" don't need no props or no gimmicks they are great on their own. It was homecoming no big deal. Ain't like it was the Florida Classic or anything. He was doing what most other bands try to do, imitate, but never duplicate.

  12. It was Homecoming 2K6. Not being the Florida Classic and your point is???????????

  13. Can we discuss a more IMPORTANT issue...

Recently I have witnessed opposing teams come onto the field while the "100" are still performing. This is straight disrespect, but how can we expect other individuals to act accordingly if our own team and "ball boys" do the same.

It's pretty sad when Joe Bullard has to ask the refs to Please remove the team from the field.. back in the day.. that woulda been an ass whoopin... 100 Style

  14. And Castell would have expelled every last one of them. This is not Thugs R Us.

  15. Exactly! 9:19am It won't be cute if it gets to the Alabama State Marching Hornets situation evolves. Not appreciating it, at all. Teach kids to be part of something great, first. No wonder why people think that they can be an "effective" drummajor after ONE year in(with) the ranks. Just barely making it, and wanting to teach something. When really the learning is really getting started. Some have asked to be a drummajor from the gate. I want to play football for the Rattlers... guess what-no haps. People keep using kids for their own gratification and are puzzled by the results. I'm not surprised. Oh yeah, Castell should be out of the ranks now- look at her "grades". Looks like failing to me.

  16. So, Pee Wee was on the grid from time to time, the assumption here was that she was intoxicated and tragically laughed at. Note:SoulTrain is not in the band either. Not hate, just LATE. Everybody wants to be on the sidelines (too many "dancin' hoz? on the sidelines anyway!) Maybe if WE went and followed the game and stopped acting like we're at a tennis match or a golf tourney, waiting to cheer after the the effort is made by the Rattlers. NOTE: just because the band has to quiet down for the snap, does not mean that the crowd must do the same. Then maybe the band will play when our team scores and not the opponent. It has messed up the flow of the rotation. The band is the "soundtrack" of the Rattler front and there has got to be better communication. Seems as if the band is the guest in its OWN HOME. OUT with CASTELL!..and CO (esp AUSTIN)

  17. THERE IS NO BACKSIDE TO A MARCHING 100 PERFORMANCE!

  18. Seems to be a few quitters and wannabees on here.
