Retired FAMU Professor Willie Roberts wrote, "the BOT has granted an unrestricted license for change at FAMU to the interim president, which has adverse ramifications in many areas, including the selection of a permanent president."
"The BOT’s apparent rationale for granting such prerogatives to the interim president is that a new president won’t have to make such decisions. But, what if the new president wants to make such decisions?," Roberts continued.

Please! Stop the madness! Castel is only righting a ship that's been upside down for a long time. The covers have been pulled.
ReplyDeleteWell, true enough, CVB has done a tremendous job of correcting a number of financial irregularities at the University; however, as Roberts suggests, if she is going to make all of the administrative decisions before she
ReplyDeleteso-call "leaves" the interim presidency, then the new president will then have to make subsequent administrative changes when s/he comes aboard. I agree with Roberts' assessment.
What world have you all been living in over the last two years? CVB has made a complete mess of FAMU's financial "State of Affairs". What do you think the audit report showed? It is alright to support someone in doing good, but the FAMU finances (under CVB) are the worst in its 119 Year History according to the Chief Financial Officer of the State. Please reserve this space for any hope of a "Permanent President" coming aboard to clean of the "horrific mess" of the finances and the morale that Castell is leaving behind. If FAMU had an upside down ship before CVB, the Democrat would have gladly stated it without reservation.
ReplyDeleteWhile CVB has perhaps made a great mess of thing financially since she's been interim president, I believe that she has not made a "complete mess" of the financial situation any more than was already there when she arrived. The university has been in dire financial straits for umpteen years, and while CVB has done her share to right a number of financial wrongs, there is still evidence that much is, financially wrong and will be financially wrong when she leaves. I do, however, believe that a number of financial improvements have been made since she's been there. Now, in terms of her treatment of faculty and staff, she has done a most horrendous job of addressing the concerns of this segment of the university population. She has no respect for anyone and does simply as she -leases. Much of the carte blanche that she enjoys, administratively, has been allowed by the BOT, which has no backbone to reel the woman in and make her more accountable (or EVEN accountable). There is, of course, enough to go around. No one's been living under a rock for the past two years, but if you're going to offer an argument, please make sure that your position is clear.
ReplyDeleteCastell is turning FAMU around financially. She's turning FAMU BACKWARDS!
ReplyDeleteThe record is clear:
-A $10M deficit and NO surplus;
-Multi-million dollar losses in FTE funding as a result of declining enrollment (caused by shutting down the recruitment);
-Millions lost in research grant dollars (caused by cutting the research division in half);
-Millions lost in private giving because of a lack of fundraising;
-Millions lost in the principal of the Foundation due to irresponsible spending.

ReplyDeleteA "right-sized" ship still underwater is the same as an upside down ship in my book...
