The Breakfast of State Champs?

We want to be among the first to congratulate the FAMU High Baby Rattlers on their state championship. Today, they beat Victory Christian 14-10 in Miami.

It's unfortunate that the University refused to provide financial support to the Baby Rattlers on their trip. The team went "hat-in -hand" to the community to round up the necessary money to make the trip. We understand, the ususal suspects, Atty. Darryl Parks, the Capital Outlook, Sen. Al Lawson, Bill Proctor, Earl Britt,MD and NFL Player Sam Madison pitched in and help the team out.

The Baby Rattlers ate breakfast, this morning, at McDonald's, lunch at Burger King, and Dinner at Denny's. Had the team had proper nutrition they probably would have really kicked-ass.

On related a note...
The Community Welcome Back Celebration for the FAMU DRS State Football Champions is scheduled for Saturday evening between 7:00- 8:00 pm at the FAMU DRS GYM.

  1. Oh hell naw, we got $85,000 for a Castell bonus, but zero the Baby Rattlers?

  2. Thank God real that there are some real Rattlers in the FAMU community who opened their hearts and wallets for the Baby Rattlers.

I've been talking with some local DRS alums in town who are flabbergasted by the administration's cold refusal to give the DRS athletes any aid.

No wonder Bryant took the word "caring" out of the university's motto.

  3. Two Questions: Had the University, in previous years, funded/help fund the Baby Rattlers' state championship trips out of town? Also, what is the University's motto now, if CVB has reinvented the wheel?

  4. That is not how you feed football players before a state championship game. Unbelievable...

  5. Housing and feeding a high school football is a remarkable feat for any school to accomplish.

Simply put, the more you win...the more money you lose.

As a high school administrator, I understand the problem.

We solicited in the community to raise money and had significant alumni support.

I read this blog often and while it has provided some salient information, it is getting somewhat repetetive in its slant...anti current FAMU administration.

With a week or actually less than a week to prepare a trip of this nature, the only thing I can see the university doing perhaps is lending use of the bus.

What you may have seen other presidents do is put their face and influence on an effort to raise funds for the trip but I can't really attach this to Castell, nor do I need to.

There are so many more legitimate issues. By the way, the more interesting venture is now coming up in providing the "standard" state championship jackets and rings for the players and coaches.

    Let's see who steps up.

  6. This blog hasn't dished out any unnecessary slant toward the current administration. Castell's callous treatment of university faculty, staff, and stakeholders, warrants her much worse treatment. RN has actually been very kind to her, considering.

I too am involved with high school athletics. In this instance, it is the university (school district/college of education/office of the provost) responsibility to see to the transportation, housing, per diem, etc., for any recognized FAMU DRS (school district) athletic sport to an event of this nature.

Starting with the refusal to allow the Baby Rattlers to play their playoff game at Bragg Stadium to the final trip to the championship playoffs just shows that when Jesus is for you it doesn't matter who's against you.

FAMU DRS has done all of us proud, irregardless of the treatment/support (lack thereof) received from this administration.

The Baby Rattlers are true Champions. Let's see how they are received and recognized by this administration:

    Castell Bryant (IP)
Debra Austin (Provost for Academic Affairs)
    Nelson Townsend (Athletic Director)
Scott Dantley (Dean, College of Education)

  8. Wait. Are you saying FAMU wouldn't allow FAMU High to use Bragg Stadium for their playoff games this year? You gotta be fibbing!

  9. Yelp, the week of Nov 11th. I believe they played at Cottondale at Florida High.

  10. So the team went "hat-in -hand" to the community to round up the necessary money to make the trip. and Da' Rattler understands, the ususal suspects, Atty. Darryl Parks, the Capital Outlook, Sen. Al Lawson, Bill Proctor, Earl Britt,MD and NFL Player Sam Madison pitched in and help the team out.

One wonders what category the university would have put this expenditure? Why wasn't Da' Rattler one of the "usual suspects".

Get real people -- North Florida Christian (NFC) played in the championship series and lost but were given great accomodations and meals -- the difference? The supporters came out of their wallets and did not depend on others to do what they should do.

    Talk is Cheap.
