Latest strike against band may have been retaliatory

Details continue to trickle in, at a steady pace, about Cast-hell's latest move against the Marching 100. We are hearing her latest strike may be retaliation against Julian White because incoming Gov. Charlie Crist called Dr. White directly to invite the 100rd to perform at his inauguration.

Our Lee Hall Bureau reports that Cast-hell (Madea Simmons) was pissed that the Gov.-elect's office would call Dr. White directly, rather than going through her office. Perhaps, this occurred because Cast-hell has been in "diva mode" lately and doesn't promptly return calls.

Nevertheless, when Dr. White tried to make an appointment to inform her of the invitation she would not take his call or see him. This went on for about two weeks. Now this impending Super Bowl fiasco.

RN has just learned that Cast-hell has finally signed off on the Crist inauguration invitation, but not the Super Bowl invitation.

  1. Castell is simply mad at the world, except, of course, those people who people her world. If enrollment #s are down so drastically and some positive exposure to the University would perhaps be gained through the band's participation at the SB Game, then why, in heaven's name, would you want to block that? I mean, just how much punishment is enough for one entity, the band, if, indeed, punishment is what she is meting out? Along with so many others, I simply do no understand the woman's reasoning and rationale for the things she continuously does. And all of these acts are from someone who purports to love the school.

  2. what's the story between Bryant and White? Why does she dislike the man so much. Can someone please enlighten me?

  3. Why are people letting this woman continue to do things that harm the name of FAMU and especially the Marching 100? Granted the band had some issues with Detroit, but I was assured by those there that it was blown completely out of proportion. As a FAMU Alumnus, former Marching 100 Trumpet Section Leader, and current FSU Jazz Professor, I am actually appalled to get this e mail while here in Japan!! (on tour with the Count Basie Orchestra) I cannot believe that an invitation to the world's largest press event and sports event has not been readily accepted. I travel with men from the age of 25 to 75 and let me sadly say that this proves further that age has NOTHING to do with professional maturity. Not meeting with Dr. White for two weeks and not taking his calls?? Even people at war in the Middle East talk!!!!!!!! This is absolutely unbelievable and further proof that she must be a puppet for someone else in a higher popsition that can allow this kind of thing. Having the Marching 100 perform at the Super Bowl is a no-brainer, but obviously brains are not totally involved in making this happen and approving it the milli-second she was informed of it. For me to have to sit here and send this from Japan tells you how ticked off and angry I am because I know what hard work it takes to be a member of the Marching 100 and that not everyone there is responsible for a select few who were doing things certain college kids do on a dialy basis in the USA. I think the 100 should protest directly in front of her office, her home, and exploit the fact that she is playing politics with a situation that doesn't warrant it. THEN some of these administrators and faculty need to help them. If they miss going to the Super Bowl, I will do everything in my power to see that this type of thing never happens again. Period.

  4. Another female president like Castell will be the end of FAMU.

  5. I believe that it is about time that our Board of Trustees step in and say something about Dr. Bryant's decision not to readily approve this invitation. This is yet another opportunity for FAMU to be recognized across the United States and the World. I really do not think she should let this opportunity pass. Forget about the past and focus on the future of not only our beloved University but the Marching 100!!!

  6. I Live in Detroit. Thank God for the internet, or we would never see the hundred here. As a FAMU Alumni, I'm sick to my stomach to think that we might see the World's greatest band And the #1 College voted by Black Interprise get the exposure they deserve. My husband is a Marching 100 Alumni and he is so upset. Our School and band have worked so hard. Please FAMU family don't sit on this one.

  8. Unbelievable. I performed at Jeb Bush's inauguration in the 100 (sp) 8 years ago. Former Prez Bush was there and I think future Prez Bush was in attendance. Although I'm no fan of the Busheseses, that was a great experience that VERY few people on the planet can claim. Not to mention the political message it would send for FAMU to DENY playing for the Gubnah.

We gotta get Castell to let our boys play in the Sup Bowl. If I turn on the TV and BCC is playing with Prince, I think I'll throw up.

  10. This lady is crazy, but what can you expect from someone who doesn't wear green, but moss instead. And can someone hook her up with a barber, please? I know my uncle, Dr. Gainous made some mistakes, but if people had took the time to talk to him and not listen to conspiracy theorists, they wouldn't have fired him to get this heifer.

  12. Well, the NNN is reporting that she has called an emergency meeting on this issue with the principles on campus, because of some HIGH level heat that she's getting...

  13. I'm glad she's getting some heat. Maybe it'll relax her damn hair.

  15. maybe I'm just seeing things with rose colored glasses. BUt what has the band done to deserve any of this type of attention. Nothing!!! I'm in that number, and I know first hand the detroit incident was caused by freshmen who are not members of the World Famous. It just seems like a way to get everyone back because you didn't make it. It ain't for everyone, but that doesn't not mean punish us becuase you didn't have it.

  16. GirlF needs more than a barber; she also needs a wardrobe person, as well as face-massage person, to untighten the leather. Leather, er, weathered faces aren't fashionable at all.
