BOT Chair Challis Lowe and Search Committee Co-Chair R.B. Holmes told the Tallahassee Democrat that the FAMU Presidential Search is, and will, move forward as planned.
The Hollins Group, an executive search firm, is expected to present eight to 10 names of the most qualified nominee and applicants to the FAMU presidential search committee on this Wednesday.
"Like everybody else, I'm really curious and anxious to see what kind of people they've been able to come up with," Challis Lowe, who got her current job through a Hollins Group search, told the Democrat.
The overal plan calls for a permanent president being named by March 8, 2007.
See: Search still on at FAMU
For the record, we stand by this story: Search a hoax?
Ummm......
ReplyDeleteFIU Law just got full ABA approval. Why is FAMU Law lagging so far behind? Why did the ABA express a concern with lack of faculty scholarship production and quality and cite a concern that provost and president do not know how to manage a law school?
ReplyDeleteAttention all concerned students of FAMU LAW. We all know how qualified Professor Robert Abrams is...few of the faculty at this school come close to matching his educational credentials and none have his experience in law teaching.
ReplyDeleteSo why are his fellow tenured faculty attempting to question his tenured status? Why is the rank and tenure committee meeting in secret without Professor Abrams (and Professor Bernier) despite the fact that law school rules clearly state that he is entitled to be on the committee? Why is the main campus sitting on its hands and not doing anything about this? It's not his fault that Michelle Roberts and Percy Luney failed to fill out the appropriate paperwork.
Unlike some Professor Abrams actually keeps office hours, teaches more than one class, and is proficient in his subject matter. It's no wonder FIU has full approval and FAMU is falling behind. I bet FIU would never treat a tenured faculty member like this.
Challis Lowe and George Allen cannot be trusted.
ReplyDeleteFIU included the professional legal community in South Florida in its planning stages. FAMU had the Founding here too, but they were too lazy to do any meaningful work. The former dean really messed this one up. FIU doesn't have a faculty full of baby mamas, girlfriends and "kept women". Has anyone on the faculty actually published anything significant as of late or practiced outside of the Public Defender's office? Unlike their FIU counterparts who write books about the Liberian crisis in Africa and other significant legal issues, the FAMU COL profs sit and bicker over stupid stuff. This place is like a kindergarten. Could someone please wake up the administration in Tallahassee and tell them to come and fix this mess before it is too late?
ReplyDeleteCould anyone tell me why Charles Pouncy and Phyllis Kotey left UF Law, passed by Orlando (and FAMU COL) and headed south to FIU? The two are highly regarded in the legal community. Why weren't they tapped to be a part of the Founding Faculty at FAMU COL?
ReplyDeleteAnon, 2:44, I'm afraid you answered your own question: Because they are "highly regarded," and FAMU's COL isn't.
ReplyDeleteWell since Luney did not workout for you all, how about we (nccu) send you youo old provost back to be your next chancellor to make up for Luney?
ReplyDeleteIt's really sad because FAMU law has so much potential. I guess some faculty would rather see the school fail than give up power. Anon at 2:35pm you are a frequent poster concerning the law school. Do you have some positive, non-defamatory recommendations for improving the school?
ReplyDeleteDo you really trust this BOT to select a high quality next President of FAMU? Remember, the Holmes-Corbin connection selected Gainous. Now this same board, being run by Corbin behind the scenes, will select a "permanent" president? Gov-elect Crist needs to re-shuffle the FAMU BOT with a quickness. Anyone with ties to James Corbin MUST GO! Challis Lowe...GOTTA GO!
ReplyDeleteAnon at 1:41 AM. In addition to Luney---could NCCU also take back its graduates who are on the faculty at FAMU COL who don't keep office hours, don't teach more than one class, & aren't proficient in his/her subject matter?
ReplyDeleteABA tells FAMU law wait until 2008 to apply for full accreditation. Concerned about impact that the Clean Up Lady has beeh having on the law school.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that CVB is the problem. Have you evaluated the faculty at FAMU COL and compared it to FIU? Check out FIU's website--what a difference a race makes!Former public defenders with no teaching experience at FIU are given beginning law teacher jobs. At FAMU they are given a tenure track. Profs at FIU write books and teach overseas in Spain while profs at FAMU dispense grammatically incorrect exams, cite JET magazine in their articles, and publish rubish on Findlaw. Same money, same opening date, but a very different outcome.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 1:41 AM is that you Prof. Langston? Your bad writing betrays you.
