Some have wondered wether Castell's email to Trustees gave them an accurate picture of the College of Engineering's management or not. We've located copy's of the Colege's 1987 agreement which was negotiatiated and signed off by former FSU President Bernard Sliger and former FAMU President Fred Humphries.

You can download the agreement here: 1987 Engineering School Management Agreement

Now fast forward to 2005, here's update management agreement of the College which was signed by Castell Bryant and T.K Wetherall.

You can download the the 2005 agreement here: 2005 Engineering School Management Agreement

  2. Thanks for posting this information. Every FAMUan needs to have these documents.

  3. That witch! I can't believe this. Did anyone notice the date of this document? It's dated May 19, 2005.

Did she not say, this is the first time she heard about this afoot?

I'm about to use a foot.

  4. Castell cannot enter into a binding agreement with the BOT's approval. She has no authority to make policy decisions on her own.

  5. Since when? That's all she has been doing while this board has been asleep at the table.

  6. There is one individual on warchant.com that appears to be very level headed about this situation. He/she argues that instead of giving FSU the COE, both institutions should encourage the leg. to give both schools their own COE. The only fear that I and most in the rattler nation have with that idea, is how long the state will adequately fund both programs. From a historical perspective, our fear is that as soon as the FSU COE gains full accreditation and support, the state will decide to discontinue funding FAMU’s COE, thus we will lose.

To address the issues of rattlers using the “race card” in regards to our current situations, my thoughts are as follows: The reason many on this board and in the community have such strong animosity for FSU is because many that claim to be FSU supporters spew racist rhetoric, ie., FAMU does not compare to FSU academically, and needs to close down, or be merged with FSU etc. Moreover, some individuals both on RN and Warchant.com have given an inaccurate account of the state of FAMU, by same there has been a fiscal problems at the University that dates back 10 years, “this is what happens when you have affirmative actions,” etc. To show how outrages these sentiments are, ten years ago FAMU was the Princeton/Time Magazine College of the year, and Harvard University was ranked number two. As long as there are individuals that feel and continue to spew “racist” sentiments about FAMU from that side of the tracks, there will be individuals on our side of the tracks that will not hesitate to use the "race card." Hopefully, as the 21st century continues, we will learn to appreciate each other and understand the value that both schools have in the city of Tallahassee, and the state of Florida, much like the institutions of higher education in North Carolina.

I agreed with the poster over there on each school having their own COE. I propose that, in order to settle the debate, allow each university to have a COE with full initial funding for 2-5 years, then re-evaluate whether each program is on a growth track toward accreditation, and if they are being successful in attracting research/corporate/grant dollars in order to sustain or obtain matching dollars. In addition, evaluate their success or ability in attracting quality caliber students/instructors to the programs.

When I was a student at the School of Architecture back in the '70s, we had the privilege of a being taught by some of the best and brightest from IBM, Pratt-Whitney, and other corporations around the country. It would be good to see that happen again.

  9. They can forge what they want with all of us minorities there. Why can't students who want to study engineering attend FAMU. Just like architecture and other programs which are not "duplicated". If it serves different purposes, is it duplicatiom really? Why does a line have to be drawn. The school is there because the justice department said so. To share is nice, but that should be our choice. Unless FSU wants to trade for the medical school that was plunderded from the agreement for FIU and FAMU. I already was leery about FIU piggy-backing in the first place. And back off of GAINES street. Why shouldn't FAMU have a front facing view to "Florida's Corridor"? Cross Tennessee street or something, re-open Pensacola and Woodward. Stop flodding people out of their homes, and with no permit from the city either. Costing the state money that they gladly (with low appraisals)paid to owners. And why would you be called a CRIMINOLE with T.K. at the helm..? Now really. Be fair and it is in the BEST interest of the state of FLrida and the U.S. to nurture FAMU.
