Now that the interim president has resigned officially, the way has been cleared for incoming President James H. Ammons to proceed unimpeded with preparations to assume the leadership of Florida A&M University.
But despite Ammons’ history of successful administration at the university level, if he is to be successful at FAMU, the university must have in place unambiguous lines of authority, and those lines must be honored by all parties involved.
Specifically, the respective roles of the president, board of trustees and the board of governors must be unambiguous, and the lines of authority must be respected and honored by all parties if the best interest of the university is the common objective.
