FAMU graduate Anika Noni Rose, a Tony Award winning actress, is set to play the role of "Maggie the Cat" in the Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The new show, which is considered one of the great gems of the American theatre begins previews on February 12th will be directed by dance legend Debbie Allen and feature an all black cast.
Cat tells the tale of a southern family in crisis. The play features some of the most memorable characters in American theatre history, such as the larger-than-life Maggie 'the Cat, her alcoholic husband, Brick, and the dominating family patriarch, Big Daddy.
The line up includes Academy Award® nominee Terrance Howard, Giancarlo Esposito (Fresh), Lou Myers (A Different World), our Tony Award® winner Anika Noni Rose (DREAMGIRLS, CAROLINE OR CHANGE), Academy Award® nominee and two-time Tony winner James Earl Jones. The legendary Phylicia Rashad, the queen of black drama stars as "Big Mama."
Dont blink, or you'll miss the show: Cat will only be up for a strict six week engagement.

This should be a great play. The all black cast is a natural, we can sure be a southern family in crisis.

ReplyDeleteRose is gorgeous, no question, but hasn't Rashad aged gracefully??? And she still has that sassy sexiness, too! Terrence isn't bad on the eyes, either. They are all so talented, and we're all so very proud of them!
