the shirt is nice, but we really don't need one to tell us what we already know. and the fact that the white guy is wearing one doesn't make the fact any more pertinent.
Please learn to graciously accept compliments; the young man wouldn't be wearing the shirt if he didn't believe in what it says. Is it because he is white that you feel you must attack him? Why not thank him and appreciate him? No, we don't NEED anyone to tell us what we already know, but it is very nice to hear it just the same. Why be so sour and unkind? Would you rather he wore a shirt that said FAMU had the world's ugliest women? No, of course you wouldn't. Drop the drama and accept the compliment with a "thank you."
11:20, why is it that we need to "thank him" and "appreciate" him? is it because he is a white dude who's wearing a shirt with those words? i don't think so. if he were black, we'd simply see it as a t-shirt being worn by a brother, but i don't think we'd even have a dialogue about it. we'd simply take the shirt-wearing for granted, because we know what we are. no, i don't think we need to "thank" him or "appreciate" the fact that he's wearing the t-shirt. white does not make the compliment any more pertinent. anyway, it's just a damn t-shirt. and not something that even needs discussing. why go stupid over a white boy wearing a t-shirt? what i think is happening here is that we are all in need of soe REAL news from RN. i think we're all looking for something of substance to gripe about, and since this is a slow news period, the white boy in the t-shirt seems to fit the bill right about now. he makes good fodder.
When do we get back to common deciency and respect. Stop the self hatred and move on to greater issues. We all know that we are beautiful, but it's just nice to hear it sometimes, no matter who recognizes it. If there were enough TRUE brothers expressing the sentiment, them maybe it would seem less painful to you.
What is the matter? Can we stop the profanity on this site. We are not (vocabularily) changelled. Let's try to bring some decorum.
There is a lot of positive news on this website, however a lot of comments are written about minor things. Let us raise up and be positive.
Dr. King had a dream - that we would judge others by the content of their character rather than by the color of their skin.
The facts that Obama is the democrat nominee and Rice is the secretary of state seem to indicate that the good ole boy network (aka YT) is closer to achieving that dream than we are.
Do we hate ourselves so much that we have to jump to criticize other races before they can criticize us? Does it take some of the sting out of name calling directed at us, if we direct it at others first? Is it okay to refer to the white student as a WB? Are we being respectful? Never mind that we're often not respected ourselves, are we as bad as all the others, or are we better? Or is our pain that has its roots in the past still too raw for us to treat others the way we want to be treated? If we don't do that, is our way better? Or is there short term relief from our pain, that justifies so many of our peoples bitterness and scorn for anyone who does not have our racial background? So many people criticize FSU -- in fact they hate it. Why? Many of our people choose to go there - why? FSU graduates it's Black students at rates slightly higher than they do their white students; do we applaud or name call?
Rattlers! It's 2008. Let's take our thoughts to the next era. Negative about like the ones posted don't put us in the best light. If he or she is for FAMU, then they are a brother or a sister. Who cares what color their skin is.
Man you guys are small-minded and petty. How in the heck does a shirt that's clearly complimenting the women of FAMU bring about such rude and crass compliments. What ever happened to the more mature people that used to comment on this site anyway.
I personally want to thank him for wearing it and being brave enough to do so. He's not bad looking himself...so go right ahead and give me my compliment and graciously ACCEPT...THANKYOU!:-)
Half of you wouldn't even take a "compliment from a "TRUE brotha".Yes there is self hate, where have you all been. Who's been to hterapy here? Yes,he does get more credit for wearing the shirt. More than I would. Do our women self-hate (from trauma) and long for acceptnace and attention from our lighter brothers? The most awesome qestion, What is diversity? Hate or not F_U is not to be the rule for FAMU. Ever. I have been on campus recently and the fact is that I have seen a couple different versions of this shirt, including this one. I'll be happy when the ERA is finally passed so that women get what they deserve. Our men have been not only ignored but pushed aside to edify and make fair for women in America. our women don't realize that for them the civil rights movement made womens liberation possible. Unfortunately some tink that leaving lilttle brother behind is more righteous. Pay attention. ...And you can get whiter, they may just be darker that you though. And even for the white brother, his manhood is called to question. Think people. How do you evenquestion womanhood? It's from within, somehow manhood is only worth what others deem it to be. And that varies with each encounter. We teach our sisters to have self-esteem and to believe in themselves. Pot stop calling out kettle and likewise, kettle.
I don't really understand why there's this big hoopla about a white guy wearing that shirt. If it were a black male student wearing it, we wouldn't say anything, because it's, well, a black guy wearing it. But it's a white guy, and now we're all so enamored with it. School me on this one, 'cause I just ain' feelin' all this madness and mayhem.
Damn! You can't get no whiter! LOL
ReplyDeletehaha I love it.
ReplyDeleteI first remember seeing that shirt in 1981.
ReplyDeleteDallas Williams usta sell them by the dozen
but chances are, that dude ain't interested in the FAMU Women. It looks like that shirt is painted on.

ReplyDeleteFAMU's diverse student body? What is RN's definition of diverse?
