Florida A&M, junior, Leroy Vann, earned national player of the week honors from the Sports Network. Vann, a 5-9, 182, Cornerback and Kick Returner on the Rattler football team was named national special teams player of the week.
Vann, a native of Tampa, returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown to give Florida A&M the lead for good at 38-35, on the way to a 52-49 victory over Southern Saturday night on the road. It was his fourth kick return for a touchdown this season, two on kickoffs and two on punt returns. Vann finished with two punt returns for 68 yards and six kickoff returns for 135 yards.
He ranks fifth nationally in punt returns with a 17.8 average and is 25th in kickoff returns with a 25.7 average. He is averaging 123.7 all-purpose yards per game and is the team's third-leading tackler with 38 stops, 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack for a safety.
Congratulations Leroy Vann. You are one heckuva player. But remember, you can't return every kick. Let some of them go out of bounds.
