Seated in Florida’s capital city, FAMU has long tradition of preparing students for success in politics. This year, three more alumni will rely on their FAMU training as they make laws and budgetary decisions for the entire state.

All elected in 2008, Dwight M. Bullard, Mia L. Jones, and Alan Williams have been sworn in as members of the Florida House of Representatives.

Dwight M. Bullard, District 118, Miami

Bullard, a schoolteacher who earned his bachelor’s degree in history from FAMU in 1999, follows in big footsteps.

His father, Edward B. “Ed” Bullard, was a member of the Florida House from 2000-2008. His mother, Larcenia J. Bullard, was a member of the Florida House from 1992-2000 and has been a member of the Florida Senate since 2002.

He’s a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Mia L. Jones, District 14, Jacksonville

Elected to the House after winning two consecutive races for the Jacksonville City Council, Jones earned two degrees from FAMU: a bachelor’s in accounting in 1991 and an MBA in 1992.

She’s also the former director for Minority Business Affairs for the Duval County Public Schools and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Alan Williams, District 8, Tallahassee

Williams, whose district includes his alma mater, earned a bachelor’s in business from FAMU in 1998 and an MBA in 2003.

He’s best known in Tallahassee for serving as Mayor John Marks’ community relations aide and heading the local chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association.

Williams is also a standout in his fraternity: Kappa Alpha Psi. He’s held the distinctions “Brother of the Year” and Polemarch.
