Organizing for America and the FAMU Campus Recreation are sponsoring “YOUnity for Change” on
Saturday, September 29 from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. FAMU students and
Tallahassee residents will have the opportunity to learn more about
political issues and register to vote. The event will be held at FAMU’s
Hansel Tookes Student Recreation Center, located on the corner of
Wahnish Way and Osceola Street.
The event will include performances from various campus organizations and speakers.
“I’m very excited about our university community spearheading
voter registration efforts” said Marissa West, president of the FAMU
Student Government Association. “Voter suppression is at an all-time
high, and we need to organize strong efforts to ensure a great turnout
in the upcoming presidential election.”
Members of Organizing for America echoed West’s excitement.
“I am excited about this upcoming election and rally,” said
Aryl Burkett, voter registration coordinator for Organizing for America
and FAMU student. “I will be working to make sure all students are
registered at this event.”
“One of the goals of the event is
to register 500 students to vote,” said LaQuinta Alexander, one of the
campus leaders for Organizing for America.
