Sharonda McThay, valedictorian of the FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS) Class of 2013, was all smiles when Dr. Patricia Green-Powell called her to the commencement stage for a special presentation.

Green-Powell, interim dean of the FAMU College of Education, presented McThay with an Adopted High School Award. It will pay the entire cost of tuition, student fees, room, and board at FAMU for four years. The award carries an estimated value of about $58,000.

A total of 39 Baby Rattlers crossed the stage to receive their high school diplomas on Saturday in the DRS gymnasium. FAMU alumnus Daryl Parks, a Tallahassee attorney, delivered the commencement address.
