The 34-year-old Robert "Pete" Griffin Track & Field Complex is set to reopen after undergoing a modest one year renovation. Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., FAMU officials will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the track to mark the nearly $1 million resurfacing and upgrade project.
The 34-year-old track's enhanced areas and new features
include:
- New and thicker rubber track surfaces
- New pole vault and high jump pits
- New long and triple jump lanes
- A new shot put landing area
- A new discus cage
- NCAA/state high school regulation striping and line markers
- NCAA regulation slopes
- Upgraded restrooms
- Electrical panel upgrades
- New sand pits
- UV stabilization
- New signage
- New water fountains
The ecco-friendly enhancements are expected to better serve the needs of FAMU student athletes and aid in recruitment. It should also attract regional and national events.
