FAMU (24-27) captured its league-leading tenth softball
title with the win over arch-rival Bethune-Cookman (25-31), which has won eight
(8) league titles.
Head Coach Veronica Wiggins was pleased that the team had finally
gelled.
“With this era of youth, it takes a lot to get them to buy in to your system. Things came together when it needed to and that’s what it’s all about,” Wiggins said.
Pereira (9-8) pitched 26 and one-third innings in the
tourney, allowing three runs, two earned, on 18 hits, with 17 strikeouts
against just seven walks, to earn a spot on the all-tournament team as well as
the Most Outstanding Player honor.
Joining Pereira on the all-tournament were
Christina Robbs and Kieffi Myrick.
