A recent article in the Leesburg Daily Commercial newspaper sheds a glimmer of light on FAMU's interest in using a former Lake County elementary school to offer training in the health professions in that Central Florida community.
The article states that provost Rodner Wright wrote the Lake County School Board expressing an interest in Leesburg's Dabney Elementary School site which has been closed for sometime. Wright wrote, "FAMU hopes to partner with the Central Florida Health Alliance and the City of Leesburg" to offer the programs.
Specifics were few, but Wright's letter was enough to convince school board members to hold off on plans to demolish the school until they had a chance learn more about the university's plans.
