FAMU alumnus Ramon Alexander is at the top of the
fundraising race in the Democratic nomination contest for Florida House
District 8 with nearly $90,000.
“Every dollar they give is an effort to improve the quality
of life in Gadsden and Leon counties. My commitment to work for the betterment
of our families in District 8 is very personal.”
Alexander, national executive director of Distinguished
Young Gentlemen of America, Inc., has a total of $88,678.55 in monetary
donations and $1,675.00 in in-kind contributions.
“My wife and I are grateful to the great number of people
who believe enough in our campaign to give their hard-earned dollars in support
of my candidacy,” Alexander said in a quote published by the SaintPetersBlog.
Alexander, who earned a degree in political science and
public administration from FAMU, served as student body president during the
2005-2006 school year. He formerly worked as the community & external
affairs aide in the Tallahassee Mayor’s Office and a legislative intern in the
Florida House of Representatives District 8 office for two years.
He is married to Taniyah Dawson, an alumna of the FAMU College
of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and formerly starting point guard for
the FAMU Women’s Basketball Team.
The District 8 seat is currently held by Rep. Alan Williams (D-Tallahassee), who will leave in 2016 due to term limits.
