FAMU (9-11, 5-0 MEAC) won their sixth straight match, a
tightly-contested bout by scores of 25-17, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-22.
The win helped FAMU surpass its 2015 win total of eight (8)
match victories, a testament to their improved talent level and depth.
The trio of freshmen hitters Maria Yvette Garcia and Nicole
Abreu, along with junior setter Valeria Lopez led the way again after
being recognized by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference as the Player, Rookie
and Setter of the Week.
Garcia finished with 19 kills, 10 digs and a pair of service aces, Abreu finished with 13 kills and nine (9) digs, while Lopez dished out a career high 45 assists, to go with her five kills.
Senior middle Ginna Lopez-Chavez added eight kills, with
Nair Canessa making five kills and Radka Dimitrova adding four kills.
After FAMU took the opening set, Troy (6-16) battled back to
win the second, 25-20 behind the play of Sara Landis (15) and Logan Page (10),
which combined for 25 kills.
The Rattler women hung tough in winning the final two sets,
clinching the match with a sizzling .412 hitting percentage in the fourth set.
