Robinson recently announced that Maurice Edington, founding
dean of the FAMU College of Science and Technology, will serve as vice
president for Strategic Planning, Analysis and Institutional Effectiveness.
Edington has also served as the liaison to the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and co-chair of the
University’s Strategic Plan Work Group. The group started working last fall to
design a road map to chart the University’s progress towards meeting key
academic, fiscal, and operational priorities over the next five years.
The new office will collaborate with senior leadership to
monitor and improve progress on key performance indicators with respect to
academic, fiscal, and operational goals.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity,” said Edington.
“This position aligns well with the experiences and skills I’ve gained in
various administrative roles. I’m grateful to Dr. Robinson for giving me the
opportunity to assist in charting FAMU’s path forward.”
Robinson established several objectives for the office,
including:
•Enhancing campus-wide customer service through increased
monitoring, evaluation of operations, and solicitation of stakeholder feedback
•Strengthening communication with the FAMU Board of
Trustees, Florida Board of Governors, accrediting agencies, and other
organizations and stakeholder groups
•Increasing coordination of efforts to monitor progress on
strategic planning goals and key performance indicators
•Improving coordination of data collection and reporting and
the use of data in decision-making throughout the University environment
Edington’s appointment went into effect on February 20,
2017. He will provide oversight for assessment, accreditation, academic program
review, institutional research and reporting, and strategic planning functions.
Interim Provost Rodner Wright appointed Sonya Stephens, associate dean of the
College of Science and Technology, as interim dean of the college.
