The FAMU women’s basketball team won its third straight game in runaway fashion Monday night in a 61-26 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over Morgan State at Hill Fieldhouse.

Junior center Shalunda Burney-Robinson led all scorers with 14 points, to go with six rebounds, followed by junior Alicia McCray with 11 points and six boards. Shakerrya Morrison pulled down a career high 15 rebounds, 12 on the defensive end for FAMU, which finished with 38 defensive boards on the evening.

The Rattler women, who had been plagued by sub .400 field goal shooting all season, shot 51.7 percent (28 of 49) from the floor, while limiting the homestanding Bears (2-19, 0-8 MEAC) to a dismal 16.1 percent shooting (9 of 56), including a dreadful 12 percent (3 of 25) in the first half, as FAMU outpaced their hosts, 35-7 in the first two quarters.

FAMU held Morgan to single digit scoring in the first three quarters (three in the first; four in the second; five in the third), before the Bears managed 14 points in the final stanza.

Florida A&M (6-15, 4-4 MEAC) moved into the middle of the pack in the league standings at the halfway point of the 16-game conference schedule with Monday’s win, and the timing couldn’t be better as the Rattler Women have four of their next six MEAC games at home beginning Saturday.
