The Rattlers never looked back from there as they went on to
claim a 29-7 victory over visiting TSU in front of a crowd of 15,401
spectators.
"I think we have to do a better job of coaching,"
said TSU Head Coach Micheal Haywood. "Everything can be corrected and we
can do a better job moving forward."
Florida A&M took a 7-0 lead at the 2:53 mark of the
first quarter on a nine yard Ryan Stanley touchdown run capping off a nine play
74 yard scoring drive in which they took 4:45 minutes off the game clock.
Texas Southern gave up a safety to start the second half on
the kickoff which moved the score to 22-0 before a Vince Jefferies 12-yard run
put FAMU ahead 29-0 in the third quarter.
TSU would find the end zone at the 14:16 mark of the fourth
quarter on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jay Christophe to Darvin Kidsy making
the score 29-7 which would subsequently be the game's final.
Christophe went 12-of-39 for 140 yards and 1 touchdown while
being sacked three times. He also led the Tigers rushing efforts carrying the
ball 10 times for 29 yards.
Ryan Stanley got most of the time at quarterback for the
Rattlers on Saturday, rushing for 21 yards on three carries and a touchdown,
while passing for 217 yards (hitting 19 of 32 aerials) for one score. Vince
Jeffries rushed for 12 yards and a TD, plus went one-for-six passing for five
yards.
Brandon Norwood led FAMU’s receivers with five catches for
63 yards and a 35-yard touchdown catch from Stanley. Marcus Williams added 51
yards on three catches, followed by Kareem Smith (3 for 38 yards), Elijah Jones
(3 for 24 yards) and Chad Hunter (2 for 11 yards).
Overall offensively the Tigers amassed 202 yards (62 R, 140
P) while the Rattlers tallied 415 yards (198 R, 222 P). Florida A&M held
possession of the ball for 38:55 minutes while TSU was is possession of the
ball for 21:05 minutes.
