Just in time to kick off the holiday season, FAMU student Annaya Morrison was awarded a $10,000 McDonald’s True to the HBCU Scholarship, in partnership with Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). McDonald’s presented the first-generation college student with the big reward before the brand’s halftime show featuring the much-anticipated band showdown between the FAMU Marching “100” and the Bethune-Cookman Marching Wildcats at the 39th Florida Blue Florida Classic in Orlando in November.

As a brand, McDonald’s is committed to being deeply rooted in the community. This is the fourth scholarship the brand is giving this year (totaling $40,000) to well-deserving students to help cover higher education expenses, such as tuition, room, board and books, that can sometimes hinder students from achieving graduation. The scholarship is one way the Golden Arches supports educational empowerment through its True to the HBCU program.

A Florida native, Annaya is actively involved in her community and campus through her dedication to keeping them clean and safe with Green Coalition. She is also a member of Campus Curlz where she enhances, educates, and uplifts those on campus and in the community through educational support and service.
