Back on January 4th, outgoing Gov. Rick Scott appointed Nicole Washington to the Florida Board of Governors (BOG) for a term that would end on January 4, 2026. The BOG updated its website after that to list her as a member.

Scott also reappointed Zachariah Zachariah, Jay Patel, and Fred Salerno, to the BOG for terms that would end on January 4, 2026.

But new Gov. Ron DeSantis withdrew all four of those appointments on January 19th.

Washington’s name has been removed from the BOG member list on flbog.edu. But the names of Zachariah, Patel, and Salerno are still on the BOG website’s member list.

Zachariah, Patel, and Salerno were all confirmed by the Florida Senate to the BOG for terms that expired on January 6, 2019.

Washington was never confirmed to the BOG, but was confirmed for a term on the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees (BOT) for a term that would run through January 6, 2020.

Back on January 24th, Washington participated in a FAMU BOT conference call. The FAMU BOT also had Washington’s name on the roll call for trustees when it held its most recent meeting on March 7, 2019.

Washington was a staffer for Rick Scott during his governorship. There have been tensions between DeSantis and Scott for months.
