FAMU’s enrollment for fall 2018 was 9,583 students, up by 176 students over the previous year, according to its 2019 Accountability Plan. The university missed hitting its enrollment goal of 9,844 by 261 students.

Overall, enrollment is down from a high of 13,702 in 2011, as reported by FAMU’s IPEDS report. Enrollment, however, seems to be bouncing back from a low of 9,170 in 2016.

So far this year applications FAMU has received over 11,000 applications for admission for the 2019 Class of Rattlers, a sharp increase over the 7,000 applicants received last year.   About, 8,500 of the 11,000 applicants for admission are first time in college applicants.

In 2017 the university had received about 5,000 applications for admission around this same time.  Of the 11,000 applicants this year the university plans to admit only about 1,500 into the freshman class.
