FAMU’s 2019 Summer Band Camp got underway this past Saturday with 310 campers from all across the U.S.A.  This year, FAMU saw a tremendous uptick in band camp applicants; however, due to the renovation of on-campus housing the number of band camp slots was limited to approximately 300 participants.  This year's band camp is competing with several other summer camps on campus.

Another 50-60 students who did not complete the enrollment process by deadline had to be turned away.

Band campers will participate in a week-long program taught FAMU Band Staff, as well as visiting high school and middle school band directors. Over 100 current Marching 100 members have volunteered to work with the students.

Middle and high students  will have the opportunity to improve their music skills and play in small chamber groups, perform in concert band and jazz ensemble music, and well as work on their marching skills.

The camp will culminate with a parade by the participants in the marching band camp on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by a symphonic band concert on Friday, July 12thin Lee Hall, and a complete half-time performance by the marching band camp participants on Saturday, July 13th.

This year's camp includes tract for middle and high school band directors that will explore such topics as: Organizing Your Band Program, Scheduling Woes, New Director Struggles, Recruiting, Challenges with Gender Inequities, Big Band Problems & Solutions, Building Culture Within, Charting Drills for Your Marching Band, Band Rehearsal Techniques.
