FAMU DRS students, participating in the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom Schools' summer program at the school, yesterday, took part in the National Day of Social Action by taking to the streets in front of the Florida Capitol to raise awareness of gun violence and other current issues affecting youth.

National Day of Social Action engages the community's youth in current social issues and teaches them the importance and process of being civically engaged. The students also practiced voting and learned to register adults to vote.
The goals for the the National Day of Social Action were to amplify children's voices and identifying issues they care about; strengthen the electorate by registering adults to vote, and to train students to become active participants in the voting process and to hold their elected officials accountable on issues that they care about.
