FAMU Law’s Moot Court Team bested Stetson University to take first place at the Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition hosted by the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar Association at the Florida Bar Convention.
“We are proud of our team’s impressive effort in this challenging but rewarding moot court competition,” said FAMU Law Interim Dean Nicky Boothe Perry. “Many lawyers never have the opportunity to advocate at the Florida Supreme Court. Competing in front of the Honorable Justices was a tremendous opportunity for our very talented students.”
The team from FAMU Law consisted of rising third-year students Carita Skinnerand Jasmine DeLeon of Ruskin. The team was coached by FAMU Law Professor William Henslee. This year’s problem focused on the definition of a dwelling under the Florida Stand Your Ground Statute, and the deference given to judges in determining juror bias.
