The FAMU Rattler basketball team (5-12,3-2 MEAC) got out to a 27-17 first halftime lead over the Eagles of North Carolina Central, the 4th-place team in the MEAC, Monday in the cozy confines of the Al Lawson Center (7-12,3-2 MEAC). The Rattlers held on to win the game 66-57.
The Rattlers stretched the lead to as many as 23 points with just over 11 minutes left in the game, but the Eagles mounted a late surge to cut the deficit.
FAMU got game-high outputs of 17 points from both Nasir Core (Tampa, Fla.) and Rod Melton (Dothan, Ala.) and Melton tacked on seven rebounds as well. MJ Randolph (Pensacola, Fla.) was the third Rattler to reach double-digits with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Florida A&M returns to action on Saturday with a trip to Washington, D.C. to face off against Howard. Tip-off against the Bison is set for 4 p.m.
