The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) has granted reaccreditation to the FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communications.

In April 2018, the FAMU J-School was placed on provisional accreditation by ACEJMC after a review found it to be non-compliant in two of the nine accrediting standards: Scholarship: (faculty) Research, Creativity and Professional Activity, and Assessment of Learning Outcomes.  The school was given two years to correct the issues.

Of the approximately 500 U.S. colleges and universities that offer academic programs in journalism and mass communications, 117 are accredited. There are also eight accredited international programs. The FAMU School of Journalism is the first HBCU accredited by the ACEJMC, and has been continuously accredited since its initial accreditation in 1982. Accreditation of journalism schools is granted for a six-year period.
