FAMU captured its first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

“I am so proud of these young men and all that they have accomplished,” said head coach Mike Rice said. “This was a total team effort and a culmination of all their hard work last season and this season.”

FAMU not only celebrated its first MEAC men’s golf championship, but it will also be its last, as the program will be competing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) beginning on July 1. The Rattlers bested the four-team field with a three-round total of 755, beating second-place finisher North Carolina A&T State by 19 strokes.

FAMU placed four of its five golfers in the top five, and coach Rice was named “Outstanding Coach”. The Rattlers will receive the MEAC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships. The selection show will be held on Wednesday, May 5 on the Golf Channel.
