At 7:30 pm (EST) FAMU alumni, around the globe, are being asked to celebrate the life and legacy of Frederick Humphries, PhD, by raising a glass in his honor and posting a photo of yourself toasting him to social media using the hashtag #FSHourFAMUPresident.

How this works
No matter where you are or what you are doing at 7:30 tonight, stop and take a photo of yourself raising a toast to Dr. Humphries.  You can raise the toast alone, or with friends, just take the photo and post it, along with whatever tribute you desire to your social media with the hashtag #FSHourFAMUPresident

The Humphries legacy
Dr. Humphries, who died on Thursday evening, was a towering figure in academia whose “Excellence With Caring” motto helped shape the education of thousands of Black students over nearly a half-century.  He single handedly raised the academic profile of FAMU leading it to become the TIME Magazine/Princeton Review “College of the Year” in 1997.

Even today, the “Rattler Charge”, which he wrote, …”When the dark clouds gather on the horizon.... When fate is but a glint in the eye of a fallen Rattler, And hope is a lost friend… We must always remember, that Rattlers will Strike, and Strike, and Strike again!”
The charge speaks directly to the resilient nature of Black people, and the Rattler Nation, to remind us to keeping fighting on despite the challenges and curve balls that life throws at you.

So, in the
true spirit of community, that the last year has taught us, and in honor of our 8th president Dr. Humphries, we celebrate his unwavering commitment and love for Florida A&M University.
