FAMU volleyball team members Dominique Washington, Jessa Long, and Irem Ucra were named SWAC players of the week for the second straight week.
"We are happy to see our players get recognized again by the conference," said head coach Gokhan Yilmaz. "Volleyball is a team sport that everyone contributes to the outcome of every point.
"Dominique, Jessa, and Irem received a lot of help from their teammates, and we are looking forward to playing at a high-level against quality opponents this week."
Dominique Washington – Offensive Player of the Week
Washington recorded a season-high this past weekend when she tallied 29 kills to against Florida International University. She also averaged 21 kills per match during the FGCU Classic.
Jessa Long – Defensive Player of the Week
Long was the Rattlers top defensive player this past weekend as she recorded 22 digs in the FAMU’s victory over USC Upstate. She went on to add 18 digs against FIU and 11 digs versus FGCU while averaging 17 total digs per match.
Irem Ucar – Setter/Newcomer of the Week
Ucar set a new season-high with 41 assists this past weekend when FAMU played FIU. She went on to add 36 and 32 assists to average 36.3 assists per match during the FGCU Classic.
The Rattlers are 3-3 on the season and take on Campbell University this afternoon at 4:30 PM in the College of Charleston Classic. Then on Saturday, the Rattlers will face Idaho State at 12 noon and the College of Charleston (7 PM).
