FAMU officials yesterday, took the road to recruit high school and state college students to the university prior to the Florida Classic football game in Orlando. The first stop on the tour was St. Petersburg College. The recruitment tour travels today to Jefferson High School in Tampa.
On Friday, the University expects to host over 1,200 high school students from the greater Orlando area.
This year FAMU has remained in the spotlight ranking as the top HBCU in the nation, for the third consecutive year, and its high-profile partnerships with Google, Nike and LeBron James. While many future students agree that all of the publicity surrounding the university is very attractive, culture and like-mindedness is important when it comes to choosing their college - and that’s what’s really exciting about becoming a FAMU Rattler.
Campus admissions director Hugh Durham says that application rates are up by about 15% since last year. Tours have increased, admissions numbers are up, and the university is proud that so many people are looking to FAMU as their future university.
Durham shared that the student experience and curriculum provided at FAMU can’t be found anywhere else, and he believes this also factors in the uptick of interest.
