FAMU Trustees, yesterday, received an update on the status of the renovations of the westside of Bragg Memorial Stadium.  Trustees, meeting in a Construction Oversight Meeting, learned that the project, with a current budget of $8 million, is well underway and on schedule.

The project is slated for completion by September 9, one day before FAMU's first home football game of the 2022 season.

Construction managers, FAMU facilities staff, said the completion date had built in "cushion" to account for potential delays from COVID, supply chain, weather and other issues that might occur, and at this point they had no concerns.   Still, though, university officials are looking at a contingency plan just in case substantial delays occur and the stadium is unable for the first game.
President Larry Robinson suggested that potential options could include playing the first game at the opponent's home stadium or moving the game to Jacksonville or Tampa.

Trustees also heard that COVID outbreaks have occurred among several of the construction staff, that it hasn't had an impact or caused 'slippage' on the construction/demolition timeline. Construction managers also said that the stadium's replacement steel pans have been ordered and are currently under construction in the factory and should be ready to be installed in four months (May/June).

Allstate Construction, of Tallahassee, is the contractor for Phase II renovations of Bragg Stadium.  Allstate beat out Ram Construction, which handled Phase I renovations, in the bidding process.

Like Phase I, Phase II work will primarily address Bragg Stadium’s major health and safety issues, the replacement of deteriorated stadium pans (floor), seats, wider aisles with handrails to address American with Disabilities Act issues. It will also include a new press box with elevator.
