The FAMU men's basketball dropped their regular-season road finale against Southern U. 58-51.
The Rattlers got off to a hot start taking an 18-11 lead in the first half, but a 20-6 run by the Jaguars sent the Rattlers down 31-24 at the half.
Southern (16-12 overall, 10-5 SWAC) opened the second half on an 11-7 run to take an 11-point lead. The Rattlers (12-16 on the season, 10-7 SWAC) responded with their own 10-0 run to make it what should have been a one-point game, but only eight points were added to the score as there was a mistake from the Southern book, so the Rattlers were down three.
Southern responded with their own 10-0 run to take a 13-point lead. Over the next three minutes, the Rattlers went on another run, outscoring the Jaguars 10-2 to make it a five-point game.
At the end of regulation play, Southern won 58-49, but the score was later corrected to 58-51 after the game to add give FAMU the two points “mistake” by the SU scorekeepers.
