The FAMU men's and women’s  basketball teams beat the Texas Southern Tigers 76-69  and 66-55, respectively, on the road Saturday.  The victories were the first road wins for both teams this season.

The Lady Rattlers (5-16, 3-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Dylan Horton, who had 17 points and three steals. Mide Oriyomi added 16 points, four assists and two steals and Ahriahna Grizzle added nine points and three steals.

FAMU started off strong, putting together a 12-10 lead heading into the second quarter. Florida A&M did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring six of its 12 points close to the basket.

FAMU kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 4:51 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 27-19, a score that would hold until halftime.

FAMU held on to its advantage and owned a 39-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Texas Southern rallied back to take a 44-42 lead with 6:17 remaining in the game.  The Lady Rattlers then went on a 10-0 run to take a 52-44 lead with 3:10 to go in the contest. The Rattlers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 66-55 win.

On the men’s side
FAMU (5-16, 3-7) was fueled by Noah Meren who notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  He was aided by by Jordan Tillmon, who had 11 points, and by Byron Smith, who added 16 points coming off the bench.

FAMU did a great job disrupting Texas Southern’s (7-16, 3-7) shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Meren's two rejections led the way individually for the Rattlers. The Rattlers were also pretty decent from the three point range connection on 9 of 23 attempts.

The Rattlers entered halftime with a 41-38 advantage, and were able to maintain that advantage well into the second half until the Tigers rallied back and took the lead with 12:15 remaining in the game.

TxSo was able to increase their lead to nine points with 8:31 remaining, until the Rattlers rallied back to take the lead for good at the 2:33 mark.

Both teams travel to Parrie View on Monday evening to take on the Panthers.
