The Florida Board of Governors appointed Orlando-based business executive John Crossman as the newest member of the FAMU Board of Trustees member Thursday.  A longtime FAMU supporter, Crossman is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Crossman Career Builders, which provides resources and scholarships for college students and young professionals.

Crossman is a member of the FAMU Foundation Board of Directors and is a frequent guest speaker to FAMU School of Business and Industry (SBI) students.  He endowed the Crossman Scholarship.  Another Crossman donation pays for a FAMU graduate to pursue a master’s degree in real estate at the University of Florida. Crossman founded Club REAL to introduce real estate concepts and investing to FAMU students.

“FAMU has been the greatest producer of innovative leaders in Florida over my lifetime,” Crossman said.  “I am deeply honored to be in a position to serve and support that legacy.”

Crossman was appointed to fill the seat left vacant following the death of Trustee Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. earlier this year. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. The term expires on January 1, 2026.

I have extended my viewing of the direction of FAMU over the years. While I am not familiar with the New Chairman or the new appointee, I share this opportunity to congratulate the both of them.
The University is on an ongoing challenge to meet the changing demands of the forward demands of a great public university.
It is my hopes that our leadership stands unshakable towards protecting what FAMU means to so many. We have been short changed too long for too much and I support strongly our effort to recover the fair share of our resources.
We are past the time of having to get more with less.
This great university can move our programs into another stratosphere.
    of success.
