Chili Davis, Special Teams Coordinator, for FAMU football is likely to be introduced as the new the new Special Teams Quality Control coach at Kansas State University this week.  Davis is reportedly heading to Manhattan, KS, after only spending one, but impactful, year in Tallahassee.

Davis drew the the attention of Kansas State Head Coach Chris Klieman after presenting on special teams at the American Football Coaches Association convention this December.  He will  fill the role left by Will Burnham who is heading to the NFL and the Houston Texans after two seasons at K-State.

Last season, the Rattlers’ return units finished 11th (KR) and 7th (PR) respectively in the SWAC, but the kicking games were much better. FAMU led the SWAC in kickoffs with a 62.3 average and 44.1 net to go along with 21 touchbacks. Punting 47 times, the Rattlers’ averaged the second best per attempt at 41.0 yards.

Under Davis, FAMU football's special teams finished the 2022 season ranked tied for 5th nationally  among FCS special teams units at 90.0, causing FAMU Head Football Coach Willie Simmons to publicly declare Davis as the team’s “best offseason signing”.
