The No. 5 ranked FAMU Rattler football team defeated the Prairie View A&M Panthers Saturday night 35-14 in Bragg Memorial Stadium to capture their first SWAC Championship since joining the conference in 2021. The victory helped the Rattlers improve to 11-1 on the year, while the Panthers fell to 6-6.
The Rattlers will now advance to the December 16th, Celebration Bowl in Atlanta to take on the 6-5 Howard University Bison of the MEAC.
The Rattlers were dominate from start to finish out gaining the Panthers 448-274 on offensive, with 229 yards coming on the ground in a rain soaked game that suffered two weather delays and took 4 hours and 27 minutes to complete.
How it happened
FAMU scored first with 10:41 remaining in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Five minutes later the Rattlers scored again on a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Jeremy Moussa to make the score14-0.
The Rattlers scored again on their first drive in the second quarter to make it a 21-0 ball game.
The Panthers managed to score right before the half to narrow the score to 21-7.
The Panthers scored again, after a rain delay in the 3rd Q, to make it 21-14, before FAMU scored 14 unanswered points and run the clock out on the four yard line.
