FAMU awarded $9 million grant to develop community schools in North Florida

In a significant stride toward bolstering educational opportunities in North Florida, FAMU has secured a $9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This grant is earmarked for the development of community schools in the region, aimed at enhancing outcomes for students in high-needs districts. The initiative is part of the broader $50 million statewide partnership known as the Unlimited Potential Initiative, which involves the collaboration of the University of Central Florida (UCF), Florida International University (FIU), and the University of South Florida (USF).
 
The primary objective of the Unlimited Potential Initiative is to elevate educational outcomes for students across Florida, particularly in districts facing significant challenges. Over the next five years, the initiative will focus on scaling up pipeline services, expanding the presence of university partnership community schools throughout the state, and providing essential technical support to school partners.
 
The $9 million investment dedicated to FAMU will be channeled towards the advancement of North Florida's regional schools, particularly those in Leon County. Collaborating closely with the FAMU Developmental Research School and Leon County Public Schools, the grant aims to implement targeted interventions that will drive positive change in educational outcomes.
